a little about me.
Hi! My name is KK and I have been a part of a competitive team, the Mad-City Show Ski Team since I was 9-years-old. Being a part of a sport for so many years is undoubtedly amazing, and I am incredibly thankful for the many positive things it has brought into my life! Still, I recognize my experience hasn’t always been smooth, particularly with regard to my emotional wellness. I have struggled with mental health from a very young age, and at times, my involvement in athletics exacerbated those challenges - leaving me feeling alone and unsure where to turn. Despite being surrounded by incredible people, I was hesitant to share what I was going through, not knowing who would be willing to engage in a heavy conversation.
My goal with Same Boat is to bring the compassionate culture within athletics into focus, and cultivate a community of people who strive to uplift one another. Sharing equally in our burdens and triumphs, together we can build a community where every voice feels empowered, and where mental health receives steadfast support.
the mission.
at Same Boat, our mission is to navigate the waters of mental health together, fostering a community of compassion, understanding, and support so no one has to struggle alone.
our commitment is twofold:
01 — building a compassionate community.
We are building a community online and in person that encourages open conversations and provide a safe space for individuals to connect, share experiences, and support one another on their mental health journeys.
02 — supporting mental health.
We are dedicated to supporting mental health initiatives, programs, and organizations that provide essential resources and services for individuals facing mental health challenges.
Though we are all in the 'same boat,' we recognize that each person's mental health journey is unique. We pledge to champion diversity, equity, and belonging in all our efforts, ensuring our support is accessible and welcoming to all.
Join us on this journey to make mental health a shared priority, break down the barriers of stigma, and offer a helping hand. Together, we can weather life's storms and celebrate the moments of calm, knowing that we are all in the 'same boat,' committed to fostering a world where mental health is everyone's priority.
How are you supporting mental health?
There are several ways we support mental health. The first is through apparel - the apparel sales are used to fund mental health resources while simultaneously fighting the stigma around mental health. The goal is that anyone repping the brand is willing to be a safe space for others. The other is through our ambassadors. For more information on this, please go to the get involved page.
